Running Terminals in Kiosk Mode
To prevent visitors at a public Entrance Kiosk (/kiosk) from accessing the browser address bar or exiting the app — and to ensure your TV Call Display (/display) boots straight into fullscreen with audio unlocked — you should run unattended terminals in Kiosk Mode.
What Kiosk Mode Solves Simultaneously
- Fullscreen Lockdown: Hides browser toolbars, tabs, and OS taskbars.
- Zero-Dialog Silent Printing (
--kiosk-printing): Bypasses the browser print confirmation dialog when printing thermal tickets. - Unattended Audio Autoplay (
--autoplay-policy=no-user-gesture-required): Allows the TV Call Display to play chimes and voice announcements immediately after a power cycle without requiring a manual click.
Platform Setup Guides
Windows Mini-PCs (e.g., Intel NUC, Beelink, Lenovo Tiny) and Windows all-in-one touch terminals are the gold standard for USB thermal receipt printing and high-quality neural voice announcements.
1. Pair the Device First in a Standard Window
Open Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome normally once, visit https://entralane.com/pair, and enter the 8-character pairing code. Copy the resulting terminal URL (e.g., https://entralane.com/kiosk/your-kiosk-slug).
2. Create an Auto-Start Kiosk Shortcut
- Press
Win + R, typeshell:startup, and pressEnterto open the Windows Startup folder. - Right-click inside the folder → New → Shortcut.
- Paste one of the following launch commands as the shortcut target (replace
YOUR-TERMINAL-URLwith your actual/kiosk/...or/display/...URL):
Recommended: Microsoft Edge (Includes Built-In Natural Neural TTS Voices)
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --kiosk "https://entralane.com/kiosk/YOUR-TERMINAL-URL" --edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen --kiosk-printing --autoplay-policy=no-user-gesture-required --no-first-runAlternative: Google Chrome
"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --kiosk "https://entralane.com/kiosk/YOUR-TERMINAL-URL" --kiosk-printing --autoplay-policy=no-user-gesture-required --no-first-run --disable-infobars --disable-session-crashed-bubbleFor Android tablets (e.g., Samsung Galaxy Tab) and commercial Android terminals with built-in printers (e.g., Sunmi K2 / T2 / V2s), we recommend Fully Kiosk Browser & Lockdown (available on Google Play or via APK from fully-kiosk.com).
- Pair & Set Start URL:
In Web Content Settings → Start URL, enter
https://entralane.com/pair, complete the 8-character pairing flow, and then update the Start URL to your assigned/kiosk/...or/display/...address. - Enable Audio Autoplay: Under Web Content Settings, enable Autoplay Videos and Autoplay Audio (no user gesture required).
- Enable Silent Thermal Printing: Under Web Content Settings (or Print Settings), turn on Print Silently / Bypass Print Dialog.
- Enable Kiosk Mode & Auto-Boot:
Enable Kiosk Mode (Plus), set a Kiosk Exit PIN (e.g.,
1234), and enable Launch on Boot and Keep Screen On under Device Management.
On iPadOS, combine an Add to Home Screen standalone Web App (PWA) with Apple’s built-in Guided Access hardware lock:
- Pair the iPad in Safari:
Open Safari on the iPad, scan the pairing QR code from the EntraLane Admin UI, and complete the pairing step until the
/kiosk/...screen loads. - Add to Home Screen (Fullscreen PWA): Tap the Share icon (↑) in Safari’s toolbar and select Add to Home Screen. Launch the newly created EntraLane icon from the iPad Home Screen — it will open in standalone fullscreen without address bars.
- Configure Guided Access:
Open the iPad Settings app → Accessibility → Guided Access:
- Toggle Guided Access ON.
- Tap Passcode Settings and set a numeric unlock PIN.
- Set Mirror Display Auto-Lock to Never.
- Start the Kiosk Lock: Open the EntraLane Home Screen app and triple-click the iPad Top / Side Button. Tap Start in the top-right corner. The iPad is now locked to EntraLane.
A Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 (running Raspberry Pi OS with Desktop) makes an inexpensive, silent HDMI player to mount behind a waiting room TV or touch monitor.
1. Create a Desktop Autostart Entry
Create ~/.config/autostart/entralane-kiosk.desktop:
[Desktop Entry]Type=ApplicationName=EntraLane KioskExec=chromium-browser --kiosk "https://entralane.com/display/YOUR-DISPLAY-SLUG" --kiosk-printing --autoplay-policy=no-user-gesture-required --noerrdialogs --disable-infobars --check-for-update-interval=31536000X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true2. Disable Screen Blanking
Run sudo raspi-config → Display Options → Screen Blanking and select No so the HDMI output stays active all day.
OS Power & Standby Checklist
Although EntraLane automatically requests a browser Screen Wake Lock, you should also verify the operating system power settings on every kiosk and TV player:
- Turn off display after:
Never - Put computer to sleep after:
Never - On the physical TV menu: Disable “Auto Power Off / Eco Standby after 4 hours of no remote activity”.
