Staff Operators & PIN Login

In busy retail stores, clinics, and municipal offices, multiple staff members often rotate across the same physical counter PCs or tablets (/desk/:slug). Staff Operators (/admin/operators) let your team sign into shared Service Desk terminals in seconds using a 4-to-6-digit numeric PIN — without ever sharing administrator emails or passwords.

Why Use Staff Operator PINs?

  1. Instant Shift Handoffs: Counter staff simply tap their 4–6 digit PIN on the Service Desk keypad to start calling visitors.
  2. Zero Admin Credential Exposure: PIN operators can only operate the Service Desk surface (/desk); they cannot access the /admin configuration portal.
  3. Per-Operator Analytics & Audit Trail: Every ticket handled while an operator is signed in is attributed to that staff member in the Ticket Log and Analytics.

Step-by-Step: Setting Up Staff Operators

  1. Open the Operators Manager In the admin sidebar, navigate to Operators (/admin/operators).

  2. Create a Staff Operator Click Add Operator in the top-right corner and configure:

    • Full Name / Display Name (e.g., “Alex Rivera”).
    • Numeric PIN (4 to 6 digits): Stored as a cryptographic hash on the server.
    • Desk Access Scope: Allow the operator to sign into All Service Desks at the location, or restrict them to specific assigned counters.
  3. Enable “Require Operator Login” on the Service Desk Go to Devices or Visitor Flow, open the Edit dialog (⋮) for your Service Desk, and toggle Require Operator Login ON.

  4. Signing In & Out at the Counter The Service Desk terminal now displays a clean numeric PIN pad before allowing tickets to be called. Once signed in, the active operator’s name appears in the top desk toolbar with a one-click Lock / Switch Operator button for breaks and shift changes.
